We hope you are enjoying Day 1 of Age+Action 2022. Tomorrow the Center for Benefits Access team will reconvene with Administration for Community Living to discuss equity across demographics of older adults. This plenary will be an interactive session, and we encourage everyone to join the conversation. Here is a quick overview of the session:

Overview

Last year, the Administration for Community Living worked with the Center to conduct a baseline assessment that examined outcomes and experiences of people of color and other underserved groups served by the BECs. After reviewing key findings from this assessment, we will break into smaller groups to discuss successes and challenges in meeting the needs of specific populations.

Break Out Room Discussion Questions*

What are the greatest barriers for older adults/younger adults with disabilities within this demographic that prevent them from accessing benefits?

What other intersections (e.g., LGBTQ+, gender, veteran status, immigration status, limited English proficiency) provide unique opportunities or challenges to reaching subsets of this demographic?
What recommendations would you have for organizations/agencies who may conducting benefits outreach to this target audience for the first time?
Do myths, misinformation, or biases exist regarding this target demographic that either you would like to share or recommend future follow-up?

*Please designate a speaker to share out at the end about challenges and strategies of working with the given demographic.
