We are watching COVID cases continue to rise across America, and seeing the steady increases of cases in Indian County.  I’m also reading that many tribes have once again closed reservations and tribal operations as cases continue to soar.  We are anxious to hear your updates and to see what you need to sustain this pandemic safely with your tribal elders.  Can you please take a moment to respond to these questions?

  1.  Are there reported COVID-19 cases and deaths in your community or reservation?
     a.  Are they new cases?
  2.  Is COVID still active (continued new cases) in your community or reservation?
  3.  Is your tribe fully operational?
     a.  Is tribal administration open?
     b.  Is tribal finance working?
  4.  Are tribal services and businesses open?  Are health clinics and services?
  5.  Are seniors getting flu shots to protect against the normal winter flu?
     a.  Is there anyone helping Medicare recipients through the open enrollment period?
  6.  Is your senior center open? What criteria did you use to open senior centers? Were people reluctant to come back?
     a.  Are you serving hot congregate meals, grab n go meals, shelf stable meals, or frozen meals in your center?
     b.  Are you delivering hot meals, grab n go meals, shelf stable meals, or frozen meals to home bound elders?
     c.  Are you providing groceries in addition to meals, or in place of meals?
     d.  Are tribal elders also getting food from tribal commodities or food banks in addition to senior meals?
  7.  What other services are being provided to your seniors by your Tribe?
  8.  What assistance do you need to adequately serve your seniors during this pandemic?
  9.  What assistance do you need for your staff during this pandemic?
  10.  What services do you see a growing need for?  Have you thought about how you will meet this need?
  11.  Has your program seen a decrease or increase of people utilizing services as compared to prior to the pandemic?  If so, how much of a change has there been?
  12.  Has staffing been affected?  If so, how has this impacted your services?

Please send your email response along with the name of your tribe to: melissa.szasz@teyaservices.com

Title VI Program Survey--Deadline Extended!

Dear Title VI Director,

To give you more time to complete the Title VI Program Survey, we have extended the deadline to Friday, November 20.

The data from this survey expands knowledge about long term services and supports delivery and needs in Title VI programs. Your responses to the survey are instrumental in educating policymakers and funding partners on the needs of Title VI programs. Thank you for taking the time to complete this very important survey!

You should have received an email from Traci Wilson at AAAsurvey@MiamiOH.edu on Monday October 26 that provided a link to your tribe’s Title VI program survey.

We have contracted with a survey consultant who is available to assist you if needed. Please contact Barbara Gongyin at bgongyin@gmail.com if you need help completing the survey.

Please complete the survey by Friday, November 20.

 Reasons to participate:

  • n4a uses the data to advocate on behalf of your programs on Capitol Hill.
  • The data helps ACL provide targeted assistance, training, and support for Title VI programs across the country.
  • n4a will give your data back to you. If you want to learn more about your own program, complete the survey and use the data in your advocacy, data, grant applications, and presentations. You can present this information to tribal leadership to support your funding or staffing requests.
  • A toolkit will be developed to help your program use the data and findings from the survey. This will include reports, slides, and potentially regional reports highlighting key insights.

Assistance Is Available

  • If you have technical questions about accessing or taking the survey, please contact Traci Wilson at the Scripps Gerontology Center, toll free 1.855.359.3033 or AAAsurvey@MiamiOH.edu.
  • If you have questions about the ACL Information and Planning Grant that supports development of this survey, please contact n4a’s Beth Blair at 202.872.0888 or eblair@n4a.org.

Please contact Barbara Gongyin at bgongyin@gmail.com if you need help completing the survey.
