The Federal Trade Commission has issued a warning that scammers are spoofing the Social Security toll-free number to call folks and request that they verify personal information to receive a benefits increase:

Be sure to alert your clients to this scam and if they receive such a call, they should hang up immediately and report it to SSA’s Office of Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271 or
