Hello All,

CMS recently updated its guidance to Medicare Administrative  Contractors to require Medicare claims to identify the QMB status of each patient. As many of you are aware, Medicare beneficiaries enrolled in the QMB program are not liable to pay Medicare cost-sharing. However, doctors, hospitals and other providers often do not know that someone is enrolled in a QMB program.  Beginning October 2, 2017, providers will be notified of the QMB status through the provider remittance notice and to beneficiaries through the Medicare Summary Notice (MSN). A “mock up” of the Part B MSN is attached. It shows that that the beneficiary is in the QMB program and has no Medicare cost-sharing liability.

CMS recently issued a MLN Matters article for Medicare FFS providers, in addition to the technical changes in the Medicare Manual. The revised MLN article is here https://www.cms.gov/Outreach-and-Education/Medicare-Learning-Network-MLN/MLNMattersArticles/Downloads/MM9911.pdf

This is a very exciting development for QMB beneficiaries.

Best,

Leslie
