Some of you who were on today’s call will have heard me discuss this, but I wanted to pose it to the broader group:

Recently we heard about a client from Connecticut, a 65-year-old, who was denied MSP because he was not yet taking Social Security retirement benefits (his official retirement age is 66). After some investigation to better understand what the rules are and how they apply to situations like this, we have posted our findings in this NCOA blog post: https://www.ncoa.org/blog/ss-early-retirement-weigh-pitfalls/. The post specifically looks at ways counselors can help clients like this to weigh the pros and cons of taking early Social Security versus delaying enrollment in a benefit.

We encourage you to take a look at this post, share it with your colleagues, and discover whether your state has specific guidance around this matter. Feel free to share your experiences in the blog comments or on this listserv!

(I’ll circulate the call recording and slides tomorrow.)
