Learn about ESRD Medicare

End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD)

Wednesday, August 23, 2023, 2:00-3:30 pm ET

Description: Medicare enrollment and coverage rules differ for people with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), which is kidney failure requiring a transplant or dialysis. Tens of thousands of individuals are eligible for ESRD Medicare, and many make enrollment mistakes as a result of misinformation or unfamiliarity with the rules.

This webinar serves as an introduction to ESRD Medicare, and the critical role that SHIP counselors have in helping these beneficiaries access benefits and avoid costly enrollment mistakes. You will also learn about strategies for helping clients through in-depth case studies highlighting common scenarios the SHIP TA Center encounters through technical assistance channels.

During this webinar, presenters will:

·    Review basic information about ESRD Medicare

·    Examine timing and cost considerations

·    Focus on issues affecting transplant recipients with job-based insurance

·    Explore ways SHIP counselors can leverage their role to assist beneficiaries

·    Provide next steps for counselors looking to deepen their ESRD Medicare knowledge

Speakers: Anjelica Haro and Charlie McCulloch, Arizona SHIP, and Emily Whicheloe, Medicare Rights Center

Audience: This webinar is for any SHIP/MIPPA/SMP grantee who works with Medicare beneficiaries and is interested in learning more about End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD).
