Hi all. Sharing a few reminders related to the announcement of the 2023 SSA COLA to share with your teams:

COLA: The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced an 8.7% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), two links below contain additional detail. Medicare Part B premiums are decreasing
in 2023 to $164.90.

Part B Increase Hold Harmless (HH): There are Part B increase HH provisions. These two links provide details about the HH provisions from the
SSA and
Medicare Rights Center.

Medicare Savings Program (MSP) Transition Period/Disregard: There is an important Medicaid policy called the ‘transition period’ addressing the months between the announcement of the
SSA COLA (if applicable) and the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). While the SSA COLA is announced in the fall and effective on January 1, the FPL updates are typically announced in January. As a result, benefits eligibility for MSP is updated no sooner than the
last day of the month following the publication of the FPL in the Federal Register notice. As a result, state Medicaid agencies should disregard (not count) the COLA increase in determining MSP eligibility during the transition period. Be sure to check with
your state Medicaid agency (or search their eligibility manual online) to verify the end of the transition period in your state or territory.
