Following publication of the
2022 Federal Poverty Levels last week, NCOA has updated our eligibility and coverage charts for the
Part D Low Income Subsidy(LIS)/Extra Help and Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs). These are attached and also downloadable from:
As always, a few caveats: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) website and SSA Program and Operations Manual have not been updated with this information yet. Per SSA’s guidance, you can still submit LIS applications using these new guidelines, but if someone’s income falls in the gap between last year’s and this year’s levels, it may be placed on Hold status pending the formal release of the FPLs.
You should consult your state Medicaid agency to see when they update their MSP criteria; some state policy manuals indicate that the previous year’s eligibility criteria remain in
effect until March/April 1.
As always, this chart is a living, crowdsourced document. If you believe there’s an inaccuracy with the MSP guidelines in your state (or my math, LOL), please let me know and I can
correct it! Likewise, if you hear of policy changes on the horizon (e.g., your state changing/eliminating the asset test), we also want to know.
Once the CMS figures are published, any discrepancies will be corrected.
