Yesterday, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released
an Informational Bulletin (at
https://www.medicaid.gov/federal-policy-guidance/downloads/cib11012021.pdf) describing ways for states to help eligible individuals enroll in the Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs), making health care more accessible and affordable.
There are 1.25 million people enrolled in full Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy (LIS) programs who are not enrolled in an MSP, despite likely being eligible.
CMS also released a complete state-by-state listing of number and percentage of LIS enrollees who are likely eligible for an MSP but are not enrolled. This chart is attached and available
at: https://www.cms.gov/files/document/lisenrollmentjune2021.pdf. CMS encourages states to review this data and evaluate the impact of their current policies and procedures on MSP take-up
among LIS enrollees.
