Friends (especially those of you who work at SHIPs)—

Recently, the National Council on Aging (NCOA) relaunched its free unbiased online Medicare education site and tool, My Medicare Matters®, at MyMedicareMatters.org. The site offers easy-to-understand information about how Medicare enrollment, costs, and coverage, as well as a decision support tool to get personalized assistance.

One improved feature on My Medicare Matters is an assessment that helps clients predict their future health care costs based on their current health status. Upon completion of a short questionnaire and glimpse of what these costs might be, users are given the opportunity to connect with a broker upon consent.

NCOA is currently partnering with Medicare Coverage Group in this capacity, after they agreed to meet our rigorous Standards of Excellence for health insurance brokerage services that ensure every person researching and enrolling in Medicare receive unbiased education, decision support, and trusted activation options.

We wanted you to be aware of the re-launch of My Medicare Matters for three reasons:

  1. Under limited circumstances, a user completing the online assessment will be directed to contact their SHIP for additional assistance. This will occur if the individual’s income appears to make them eligible for any of the Medicare subsidies. The user will receive the toll-free number and website for the national SHIP TA Center, not local SHIP contacts.
  2. We at NCOA trust and welcome feedback on all our educational products. If you have any concerns about the information being provided on My Medicare Matters, or hear from clients about their experience with the site/tool, we appreciate your feedback.
  3. We wanted you to be aware of this new way you can serve your clients or potential clients. You are welcome to walk them through the assessment if they are interested in seeing the full out of pocket costs of some plans in their area. They can then connect with broker to meet NCOA’s Standards of Excellence to move to the next step in the process.

Feel free to reach out to us with any further questions/concerns.
