Subject: Retroactive Part B premium question - DRAFT
Does this make sense to you before I send it out?
Hi All,
In the proposed Manual revisions on state payment of Medicare premiums, there is a provision regarding retroactive payment of Part B for individuals who were found eligible for Social Security Disability more than 25 months ago. As you
all know, some people might be found retroactively eligible for Social Security Disability for much longer, meaning that states may owe significant back-payment of premiums for those SSDI recipients who qualify for MSPs.
CMS is interested in hearing opinions about whether limiting the retroactive period for this small group of beneficiaries who may have many months of retroactive coverage. Some states expressed concern about being liable for extremely long
retroactive periods.
This is different from the up to 3 month retroactive eligibility for SLMB and Qi.
Please let me know if you have thoughts, examples, questions.
Thanks,
Leslie
