Hello All,
One of our Benefit Enrollment Centers informed us that SSA has not updated the LIS income threshold for 2019. According to our BEC in Kentucky…..
“ SSA has not updated their POMs and they are denying LIS benefits for those that are clearly eligible. One of my staff spoke with a rep yesterday and she informed us that it is her understanding that the income guidelines are NOT increasing
for 2019. I have forwarded this message to her District Manager but I felt it important to share this information.”
I reached out to SSA this morning and they are correcting the policy by the end of the week. I urged SSA to correct the policy immediately and to review applications for applicants who were erroneously denied. The 2019 FPL was published
on January 11, 2019 and were effective immediately. https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines Here is the link to the POMS which indicates the 2018 FPL are being used.

We thought this is information you may want to know as you assist clients with LIS applications.
Thanks,
Leslie
