Dear BECs,

Thank you for working with us to incorporate the demographic questions into your BEC data collection and reporting. Now that you all have reported this data for a couple months, I want to highlight a few findings about BEC clients across all of your organizations.

 

• More than half of BEC clients rate their health as fair or poor.
• More than a third of clients report having a disability.
• Almost six in ten clients have annual household incomes of less than $15,000.
• A third are single, 16% are divorced, and 20% are widowed.

 

Please see the attached charts for a more detailed look at client demographics. Keep in mind that exact percentages will change as we add more data. It will be interesting to see if the trends continue.  

 

I also want to take this opportunity to remind you to please ask all clients this question: “Have you served in the military?” If they say yes, please count them as a veteran. I mention this because our veteran data seems low with only 2.38% of clients reporting military service. Not only is it important to ask this question to get an accurate picture of your client population, it is also important to identify clients who may be eligible for veteran benefits and services.
