Hi,

Thank you for sharing the information.

We also have many calls regarding us citizenship application questions.

KWA has a citizenship class and assists free citizenship application (for SNAP recipients- applicants pay nothing for the application –can save $725 per person)  .

Thank you again.

Our BEC is in New York City, in a Hispanic immigrant community.  Our clients are facing mounting obstacles beyond the norm since January 2017 with their SNAP applications and recertifications.  They are also coming to our staff with jury duty notices to the extent we have not seen before.    The notices are sent to non-citizens as well as citizens and they are asked to send a copy of their green card back with the form if they are unable to serve, with which the BEC staff is able to assist them.   Those who never did so are now eager to get their citizenship,  and are able to attend the Northern Manhattan Coalition for Immigrant Rights, where they are getting citizenship classes and information/advocacy about how to protect their rights.   We are fortunate to have this resource in our community.

There is fear among immigrants that their status can be negatively affected
if they are dependent on the state or social services.  Receiving $16 in
Food Stamps does not indicate a dependence on the system.  I will copy Sal
Espino for his comments too.  thanks.  Jerry

We recently had a Hispanic BEC client who opted not to complete or submit a
SNAP application because he was concerned about sharing personal information
given the new administration and changing immigration policies. Have any
other BECs experienced such apprehension from clients?

Thank you,

Christina
