As a result of the partial government shutdown, your clients who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits may find their February benefit allotment arrives earlier than expected.
The USDA Food and Nutrition Service has requested that all states deliver February SNAP benefits by January 20. Please alert your clients that this early delivery is not a mistake; however, after the allotment is distributed, they will
not receive an additional benefit in February, even if the government has re-opened. You may want to encourage clients to budget their SNAP spending for February with this in mind.
Note: Every state is handling this schedule a bit differently, so if you have questions you may want to contact your state office for more information.
